A mandioca (Manihot esculenta Crantz) é uma das principais fontes energéticas para milhões de pessoas que vivem nas regiões tropicais e subtropicais do mundo. Nas últimas décadas, várias organizações internacionais e programas nacionais de pesquisa na América Latina têm realizado consideráveis esforços na investigação sobre essa cultura e o complexo de pragas a ela associadas (Bellotti et al., 1999).No Brasil, e em especial no Estado da Bahia, a mandioca é uma cultura amplamente cultivada, sendo que na região do Baixo-Sul, a Embrapa, por meio de uma parceria com a Cooperativa dos Produtores Rurais de Presidente Tancredo Neves (COOPATAN) e com a Casa Familiar Rural (CFR), vem executando um projeto de desenvolvimento da cadeia produtiva da mandioca, como responsável pelos ajustes tecnológicos nos sistemas de produção. |
